Blog Tool Notes : If you blog - then you know the value of figuring out who is reading your blogs, where they reside, what language they speak, the browser the browser they are using, how | often they read your blog, etc. Of course, you want to know how many page views you are getting and all the normal stuff. I use blog-city.com for my blog - part is history (I started blogging before Sun had blogs.sun.com and before blogging was the thing to do) and part is convenience. Blog-city offers a nice set of tools that help you figure out how many page views you are getting, etc. You can see a sample screen here and here ( a daily break- down of hits). Note that there are a number of nice convenience features - many of them I haven't got around to using. However, for figuring out who is visiting and reading my blog - I have managed to turn to another tool - Woopra. Woopra, is a Java-based app that gives you some great details on who is reading your blog and provides live tracking, web statistics, from what countries your readers are coming from, real-time analytics, ability to (if you have) multiple blogs - to manage them, from where are readers coming from to get to your blog (including what search queries they used), an ability to chat with readers, visitor/member tagging and real-time notifications. Woopra also provides a set of platform | Select Image | APIs for integration with apps. You can find out more at woopra.com. You can check out the feature page which lists all the features in Woopra. You can also read the details at their FAQ page which details how woopra works. Overall - woopra really changed how I looked at readers - since I can see what they are reading right now or before, who at the moment is reading what, what time they are reading it at, their language, where and how they got to me and even changes the way I can communicate with them. I've been pretty surprised by what woopra provides. If you are curious about who is reading your blog - Woopra is a great tool. Check out the snapshots here and here. | Select to enlarge. | Desktop Tool Note : OpenOffice now supports importing and editing PDF files. This is going to turn into a very useful feature. OpenOffice already exports to PDF format. There is a very nice video showing the new features. In order to get OpenOffice to bea ble to import and edit PDF files you need to download the new Sun PDF Import Extension. You can read more at OpenOffice.org Ninja. |
