posted Friday, 26 August 2005
One exciting product based on NetBeans is Java Studio Creator.  Java Studio Creator 2 is now in early access and you can get it here.  There is a great "Getting Started With Sun Java Studio Creator 2" section that has a bunch of tutorials and sample applications.  If you are building web applications, Java Studio Creator 2 moves the bar much higher than other attempts.  eWeek had a great review of Sun Java Studio Creator 2.

Many New Components. There are many new components which you can read about here.  New components like Palettes,  new grouping behavior for basic components,  layout components, composite components like schedulers and alerts, many new nonvisual components like converters along with data converters and AJAX component support and a library.  The AJAX component source code was developed at Java.net under the BluePrints Solutions Catalog. Download the AJAX Component Libarary (zip) today. (Note: extract .complib file from zip package, then import into IDE.)
> Portlet Support.  The Sun Java Studio Creator 2 IDE provides visual tools for creating and designing portlet applications that conform to the JSR-168 Portlet specification. You can read more here.
> Data Provider Components. When you drag-and-drop a data table from the Server Navigator to a web page, the IDE creates a data provider component along with the RowSet for the table. This component is a non-visual abstraction for wrapping your sources of data – whether it's a relational database table, flat file, web service, or some other type of data store.  You can read more here.
> Import HTML pages into your project.  Read more here.
> CSS Editor.  With the new Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) Editor you can edit project stylesheets and give your projects and applications the look-and-feel you want. You can read more here.
> Auto-Deployment.  Sun Java Studio Creator 2 performs the deployment process automatically. See here.
> Drag-and-Drop Business Components.  You can incorporate methods or the business logic of an EJB component by just drag-and-dropping them onto the editing area.  See here.
> The Style Editor is a graphical interface that lets you select changes for a component's individual formatting and positioning properties. See here.
> CVS support.  See here.
> The HTTP Monitor utility included with Sun Java Studio Creator 2 enables you to monitor the flow of data within a running web application.  See here.
> Task Manager assists you by managing the tasks you need to accomplish.  See here.
> Migration assistance allows migration from earlier projects. See here.
> Project Management.  The Sun Java Studio Creator 2 integrated development environment includes a versatile Project Manager which helps you organize your source code and simplifies the application development process from design to deployment.  See here.
> Simplified Event Processing Lifecycle. The Sun Java Studio Creator 2 IDE simplifies event processing lifecycle to four methods.  See here.
> Virtual Forms.  A new feature called Virtual Forms provides a visual way to group components on a page that operate together without impacting other components on the same page.  See here.
