The OpenJDK Da Vinci Project Aims Support Of More Languages

posted Monday, 4 February 2008
InfoWorld has an article on Sun's Da Vinci Machine.  Sun's efforted which is targeted at Java SE 7 focuses on making it easier to run a wide range of different languages on the Java VM.  You can find more  on the Da Vinci Machine project here.  The Da Vinci Project is part of the OpenJDK effort.  The project is focused on extending the JVM with first-class architectural support for languages other than Java, especially dynamic languages. This project will prototype a number of extensions to the JVM, so that it can run non-Java languages efficiently, with a performance level comparable to that of Java itself.  The FAQ for the project can be found here. >
