Sun VirtualBox 2.2 Released with Support for Open Virtual Format

posted Wednesday, 8 April 2009
I use VirtualBox and find it useful.  You can check it out here .  Some interesting news on the virtualization software front - Sun released VirtualBox with support for Open Virtualization Format and Virtual Appliances.  The Open Virtual Format (OVF) is a Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF) standard that allows virtual machines or appliances to be imported and exported. Virtual appliances are one or multiple virtual machines that are pre-installed and configured so they can be shared, published and distributed. VirtualBox 2.2 software allows users to create virtual machines or appliances and export them from a development environment and import them into a production environment. Support for OVF also helps to ensure VirtualBox 2.2 software is interoperable with other technologies that follow the standard.  Also support was added for 3D graphics acceleration using OpenGL in Solaris and Linux applications, support for Apple's upcoming Snow Leopard OS, increased memory size of guest operating systems up to 16 gigabytes and support for Hypervisor optimization for performance gains.  You can download it here .
