Sun Studio Express (C/C++/Fortran) IDE 11/08 Released : Available for Solaris and Linux

posted Tuesday, 2 December 2008
In my previous blog about NetBeans I mentioned C/C++ support in NetBeans IDE 6.5 but what I didn't mention specifically is a much more interesting free IDE for C, C++ and Fortran developers.  You can find the NetBeans-derivative Sun Studio 12 (production) or 11/08 (an express release with the latest features/enhancements).  Sun Studio software delivers a high-performance, optimizing C, C++, and Fortran developer toolchain for Solaris, OpenSolaris, and, yes, even the Linux operating systems, including support for multicore x86- and SPARC-based systems. You can learn more about this IDE in this article, Why Use Sun Studio 12 Compilers and Tools, which provides insight into Sun Studio.  Sun Studio 11/08 was just released with support for Solaris, OpenSolaris and Linux.  There is a lot of resources at the Sun Studio site.  You can check out a audiocast between Ikroop Dhillon, Sun Studio Product Marketing Manager, and Vijay Tatkar, Sun Senior Engineering Manager for Developer Tools, as they discuss the feature highlights of Sun Studio Express 11/08.  Note there are Sun Studio online forums where you can discuss code and questions.
