Its the shadows and reflections cast from the future that interest me.

How-To : New (Java SE Update 10) Draggable Applet

posted Saturday, 17 May 2008
There is a lot of interest in Java SE 6 Update 10 and specifically how to create a draggable applet.  SDN had a nice pointer to this experimental feature of pulling an applet out of the browser and onto the desktop to become a desktop app.  You can find a write up on how to do this, basically setting "draggable" to "true".  Before you try it - remember you need either IE 6 or Firefox 3 (obviously Safari is out of the question ... because there is no Java SE 6 Update 10 on MacOS X for starters). Note the sample applet on the page is provided with the source code. and associated JNLP file. Note also there is a Java Plug-in forum with discussions on the topic.  Documentation on the new plugin can be found here and here.  There is a short tutorial at the blog Disagreeable Surprises.
