Its the shadows and reflections cast from the future that interest me.

New NetBeans Plugin : Real-Time System 1.0 Plugin

posted Monday, 22 May 2006
> There is now a Sun Java Real-Time System 1.0 plugin available. The Sun Java Real-Time System is the first commercial implementation by Sun Microsystems of JSR-1, the Real-Time Specification for Java (RTSJ), which combines industrial-strength real-time functionality with the usability, abstraction, and standards-based advantages of Java technology. There is a quick-start guide here.  Java RTS features
new real-time threads, scheduling and synchronization.  As well, it provides new memory management schemes, Asynchronous Event Handling, Asynchronous transfer of control, time and trimers and direct access to physical memory.  Check it out.  Note that there was a cool slot-car real-time demo and programming challenge at JavaOne 2006.  Also shown at JavaOne 2006 was a mod on the Sun Application Server which turned it into a real-time application server.
