NetBeans wins Open Source Tool of the Year, Eclipse eclipsed

posted Saturday, 5 March 2005
NetBean has just won Product of the Year 2005: Developer.com. Open Source Tool.

NetBeans has a new profiler, a new fast UI, a new ANT debugger, full J2EE support including EJB and web service wizards, full J2SE 5.0 support, a killer Mobility development environment, new refactoring features, unit testing and the list goes on.

NetBeans 4.1 has also introduced a nice way to import your projects from Eclipse, the Eclipse Project Importer. The Eclipse Project Importer identifies and automatically fixes Eclipse project discrepancies, it even identifies erroneous Eclipse project references and suggests fixes.  The Eclipse Project Importer lets you select Eclipse projects and then imports them. To get it simply go to the Update Center and download it.

Another recent addion, the Ant Debugger module, that allows developers to find and fix bugs in their Ant scripts.  User can now see how Ant targets and tasks are both executed and structured.  You can put breakpoint in the scripts.

Import Eclipse

Off the File dropdown menu is "Import Project" - there you will find "Eclipse Project..."
