posted Tuesday, 21 October 2008
NetBeans IDE 6.5 Release Candidate 1 (RC1) is out.  No more beta.  You can get NetBeans IDE 6.5 RC1 from the download site in many forms -
- Java SE bundle which focuses on desktop Java the Java Standard Edition (SE)
- Java bundle which focuses on desktop, web app, mobile and enterprise Java.
- Ruby bundle which provides a Ruby IDE.
- C/C++ bundle* which provides support for C/C++.
- PHP bundle which provides a PHP IDE.
- All inclusive bundle Include all of the above bundles and more (such as SOA).
Note that you can find an updated set of tutorials and screencasts at the Documentation, Training and Support site.  You can learn what are the new addition and highlighted features in the NetBeans IDE 6.5 release at the Release Information site.  Note a number of developers have pointed to the PHP features in the release and been surprised by their strength.  Also note the arrival of Groovy and Grails as having first class support in this release.  Detailed notes on 6.5 release can be found at the Release Notes site and the Installation Instructions site.  With all the new features - it is easy to miss the new support for Javascript debugging.  NetBeans IDE 6.5 has a JavaScript Debugger - both server and clientside - you can check out the screencast demo to see it in action.  You can see some of the things you can do out of the box -

Buried in here are JSP, JSF, Javascript, XML editors and much more.  If that isn't enough for you - you can go visit the Plugin Center where there are a huge number of additional plugins.  The Services tab provides you with databases - MySQL Server and Java DB (of course, you can use other databases). Also included are application servers like Apache Tomcat, Glassfish (v2 and v3) and WEBrick are available (as well as support for Websphere,  JBoss, Weblogic, etc).
