NetBeans IDE 6.0 Available - Killer Development Environment for Java, Ruby, C/C++, PHP and more

posted Monday, 3 December 2007

The wait is over!  NetBeans IDE 6.0 is out and available.  You can find the Release Notes here.  The License Notices detail the new GPLv2 and more details here.  Installation instructions can be found here.  You can find a wealth of NetBeans 6.0 documentation, tutorials and video tour of key NetBeans IDE 6.0 Features here. A number of longer training course can be found here.  A wonderful plugin catalog can be found here.  You can see the new cool splash screen at right.  There are so many cool things to see in this release that you will have to go and check out the features   pages and see them.  The 6.0 release

includes many significant enhancements and new features, including a completely rewritten editor infrastructure, support for additional languages, new productivity features, and a simplified installation process that allows you to easily install and configure the IDE target your needs....and it is much faster.
Go to
Services Panel.  Select to see my.netbeans screen
There is so much to see - check out the new Swing GUI builder (Matisse) which includes support for JSR 295, the Beans Binding technology and JSR 296, the Swing App Framework and much more. Or take a look at the Base IDE itself - where so many things have vastly improved and new features take it beyond where it was - a new installer, new plugin manager, support for multiple monitors, project groups, templates, sliding windows and task lists.  Also note the improved support for advanced version control - CVS, Subverson and Mercurial.  Check out the Developer Collaboration Chat features that allows you to send instant messages in plain text, XML, HTML, or Java, complete with syntax highlighting.  There are so many new features you should look at in the editor - it is not simply much, much faster but adds a number of new features - insert code, inspect members, inspect hierarchy and much more. Read more about the editor details here.  Note the profiler is now part of the core IDE.  Lots of new features included like Heap Walker, Profiling Points and more. Naturally the debugger is there as well.
Check out all the rest of the features and support (note that there is so much new stuff each has a page of its own) - like : Java EE, Java Web Applications,  Web Services,  Mobility, Ruby,  C/C++, UML Support,  SOA, WSDL & XML and Rich Client Platform APIs.  You can find the overview here.  You can download it from the same page (see the "Download NetBeans IDE 6.0" button). [UPDATE] What is your favorite NetBeans 6.0 feature ? JavaLobby is asking this question here .
