NetBeans As PHP IDE : Resources and New Tutorials and More Coolthreads

posted Wednesday, 21 May 2008
NetBeans and PHP. If you missed it, NetBeans has extended its reach to PHP. You can now use the new PHP (early access) support to develop PHP apps.  More information -
- Installing the Software and Configuring the Environment for PHP Development.  Shows you what you need to create, run and debug your PHP projects in NetBeans.
- Setting Up a PHP Project.  A How-To of creating a PHP project.
- NetBeans IDE Early Access for PHP Editor : Brief Overview. Shows you how to use the PHP editor features.
- Tutorial : Creating a Wish List in the NetBeans IDE Early Access for PHP.  In this tutorial, you use the PHP support in the NetBeans IDE to create and run a simple web application. The example shows how to create a wish list. Once created and deployed, this application will enable you to share information on wish lists with your friends, for example, birthday or holiday gifts. The information will be stored in the database that you create in Lesson 1. Any registered user will be able to view the wish lists of other users, and you will develop this functionality in Lesson 2. The application will support registration of new users, a functionality that you will develop in Lesson 3. In Lessons 6 and 7 you will develop functionality that enables each registered user to edit their own wish list. Finally, you will package the application using the CSS technology in Lesson 8.

It is getting very good reviews [ 1 2 ].

Follow-up on T-Series. This is a pretty cool article adding another datapoint to my earlier points about the T-Series.  The cool thing is that the article is talking about Sun T2000 servers which are the first generation T systems, having 50 times the throughput of AMD64/Linux systems.  Interesting because, the processing of T5220 (roughly twice the performance and 64 hardware threads) and T5240 (128 hardware threads) systems dwarf the T2000's performance characteristics. The article discusses the T-Series servers as having a 50 times the throughput of the AMD64/Linux systems they were running before.  Also tangentially there is a new article on how to use Solaris 10 containers and ZFS to minimize downtown in SAP.  The whitepaper is an excellent description of using Containers and ZFS that transcend SAP - having just gone through a Containers-based effort, I wished I had discovered this at the very beginning of my efforts..  You can find the whitepaper, Minimizing Downtime in SAP Environments,  and a write-up here and here - it describes two very cool features (Containers and ZFS) of Solaris environments.  Note - also I mentioned previously about Glassfish Zones - some want to know how to do this, you can read a nice JDJ article that describes the process  Deploying GlassFish v2 Virtualization in the Solaris Container.
