Its the shadows and reflections cast from the future that interest me.

NetBeans 4.2 Features Disclosed, Early Builds Available + NetBeans Profiler 8 Released

posted Tuesday, 16 August 2005
NetBeans' 4.2 new features have been disclosed here in some detail. Early builds of NetBeans 4.2 have been available for some time and are full of new features. You can get the 4.2 early builds here. There are considerable new features. Some of the new features further increase the technology lead NetBeans has over the Eclipse NetBeans 4.2 Early Build

IDE. In others areas the focus was on improving and adding missing features. Let's take a look :
>
Much, much easier to build new plug-ins.
> Innovative Matisse UI builder allows free-form UI construction.
> CVS Light allows easy interface to CVS.
> Way faster code completion with lots and lots of new features.
> Error stripe allows easy visual clue to errors, warnings, TODOs and bookmarks in your source code.
> JBoss 4 plug-in
> and a long list of new features. See here.

Coupled with the new collaboration modules, mobility pack and the new version of the NetBeans profiler. NetBeans 4.2 is shaping up to be a very sophisticated and agressive technology release.
Since I mentioned the new version of the NetBeans Profiler - I should mention that the new version known as Milestone 8 supports JDK 1.4.2, JDK 5.0.4 and JDK 6.0. It has added a bunch of new features which can be found here.
