Its the shadows and reflections cast from the future that interest me.

NetBeans 4.1 Beta : More Developers Like What They See

posted Tuesday, 15 March 2005
So people have started installing NetBeans and guess what - they like it. Since my blog came out I've noticed more than a few people are experimenting with it. Some pretty nice reviews. The short Download NetBeans!
review at http://www.talios.com/read/1128653.htm was pretty nice. Despite Mark's initial
"started up pretty
damn quick."

skepticism with my blog mostly because I work for Sun - he tried it. Surprise. NetBeans pleasantly surprised him both on start-up and on the performance. He had other questions but he plans to spend more time with it. Read the entire reaction. and his follow-up. I think most people remember
the NetBeans of a year or two ago. It is much, much faster. Another short review I found
over at Mark Watson's blog - Mark looked at NetBeans and he said "wow!". Mark is interested in building at Java clients and he enjoyed the NetBeans GUI builder. Mark mentioned taking the time to look at other areas within NetBeans. He is happy that he has three great IDEs to pick from. Read his comments - very cool.Okay so I wasn't exaggerating. NetBeans is fast - and it is loaded with features. One of the many things NetBeans does right is that it has the things you typically need out-of-the-open-source-box. Need full J2EE - you've got it, need to build web apps - you've got it. It goes on like that. Need an XML editor - you got it. This is a very different experience Eclipse which forces you "NetBeans 4.1 performs pretty damn quick, as well. A darn sight more responsive than Eclipse/GTK ever did that for sure."
to scout around for even the essential plugins. NetBeans has plugins as well but on essential core technologies they are included. If you don't like a plug-in you can always get rid of it. There's alot of other people starting to use NetBeans, I will try and get their stories as well.
