Java-Based Game : Jake2 (a port of Quake2)
posted Tuesday, 29 November 2005
| Jake2, a Java-based port of Quake2. You can find it here. German software developer, ByTonic software did the port. You can now play Quake2 via the Java WebStart app with Jake2 a java port of ID Softwares seminal Quake2. Performance seems similar to original C version. Jake2 is a Java-based 3D game engine. Jake2 uses jogl for OpenGL graphics and joal for 3D sound. An lwgl engine is provided as an alternative. Performance is great. It is another high-performance Java-based game. There is an interesting Jake2 discussion on slashdot - clearly the "Java is slow" crowd is now quickly being out-numbered. Reality is that the new Java games are putting an end to these out-dated beliefs. |
