Java SE 6.0 Available With Lots Of New Features; Glimpses of Java SE 7.0 [Update #2]

posted Monday, 11 December 2006

Java SE 6.0 has been released. Sun has announced the release of Java SE 6.0.  The main site for Java SE 6.0 is here.  This release has alot of new features across the board :  XML, Web Services, scripting language support (JSR 223), database support (JSR 221),  desktop & deployment,  monitoring & management,  security (native),  performance  and compatibility. You can download Java SE 6.0 here. Sources can be found here. [update 1] More from Danny Coward , The Serverside Discussion , David Dagastine on performanceA. Sundararajan on scripting , Mandy Chung on Monitoring, Management and Diagnosability , [update 2] David Bristor's changes in core SE 6 libraries, Lance Anderson's JDBC 4.0 and Java SE 6 , and more, especially Danny Coward's glimpse at Java SE 7.0 and his Dynamic Language Support in the JVM . Also Alex Spiewak's EclipzeZone Java SE 6.0 is out .  Note despite that despite no mention of Java 6.0's release (so far) on the NetBeans' homepage - you can find more info on planetjdk.org or planetnetbeans.org - you can download NetBeans 5.5 + Java SE 6.0 (SDK) here and it should run faster and look visually better than running on 5.0.
