A short time has elapsed between NetBeans 4.1 and NetBeans 5.0 Beta today and wow! Lots of new features, a new look that is aesthetically pleasing. If you do any form of Java, NetBeans has it - out-of-the-box. Very cool beta.

Very cool news. There is now MacOS X support in GlassFish. Glassfish now supports Solaris SPARC, Solaris x86, Windows, Linux and MacOS X. GlassFish is an open source project offering a fast, full J2EE App Server.

Another huge advantage of using NetBeans (over say...Eclipse) is the Mobility Pack which allows visual design of mobile apps. Mobility Pack 5.0 early access is now available. I also bumped into this nice example of using NetBeans Mobility Pack.

I finally got around to running the latest NetBeans development build on J2SE 1.5 (Update 1) on Tiger (MacOS 10.4). A quick fix to netbeans.conf and you can see the resulting snapshots of NetBeans running. An important fix : the screen menubar.

I recently saw the James Burke Knowledge Web application (shown) and a number of other 3D Looking Glass apps and was blown away. It really has come a long way. It now offers a Linux, Solaris and Windows version. Yeah, Windows, surprised me too.
