Developer Environments Start to Embrace the Cloud
posted Sunday, 29 March 2009
Developer environments are embracing the cloud. NetBeans is is moving to the cloud - an interview with Matt Thompson, Senior Developer for Sun Cloud Tools discusses where NetBeans is going in that respect. NetBeans already has cloud offerings in the form of Grid Compute Server plugin and the Project Caroline plugin. Another example, if you are using Amazon's EC2 and also are an Eclipse developer - you should be aware that Amazon has released an Eclipse plugin, AWS Toolkit for Eclipse, it is a plug-in for the Eclipse Java IDE that makes it easier for developers to develop, deploy, and debug Java applications using Amazon Web Services. You can also catch a screencast demonstrating it here. It's not only IDEs - but also scripting platforms that have or are adding parts to the platforms - for example, the Cloud Tools Grails plugin adds EC2 support (and not only that - it works across multiple IDEs). Naturally, Ruby and PHP and other languages are jumping on board the cloud train. This week according to eWeek - Google is adding Java support (to the already available PHP support) on App Engine.
